My weekend
Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, 7:56 am

The weekend was almost normal for us. We watched very little TV news, which was hard. I'm sort of a news addict. I can watch CNN endlessly. But we were so very weary from last week's tragedy and the aftermath, that we needed to shut it off for awhile.

Friday night we had 3 kids. Ours, B who is 18 months, P's daughter K, who is 8, and K's brother C, who just turned 4. In case you haven't been keeping up, K and B are half-sisters, sharing the same father (my P). K and C are half brother and sister, sharing the same mother (P's exwife N). C and B are not related in any way, but we call them brother and sister. It's all in the family. These kids all love each other and have a great time together.

Well, N asked us if both kids could stay over with us Friday night because she had a church retreat she wanted to go to and her husband, who is a police officer, had to work. We said sure, and so that's why we had all 3 kids on Friday night. Let me just say that while I love all these kids, I am glad to have to care for only one of them most of the time.

So Friday night we plopped them down on our big king sized bed and stuck a movie in the dvd player. They thought that was pretty cool. They fell asleep there, we transferred them to their own bed, and that was Friday night.

Saturday we took them to a "carnival" the church up the street was hosting. A block party was actually what they called it. They had little booths with games for the kids, hot dogs, lemonade, dunk tank. That sort of thing. All free. The kids loved it. They each came home with a bag full of little toys and candies. After the carnival, we took K and C home, and spent Saturday evening playing with B in relative quiet, and relaxing on our patio after she went to bed.

Sunday we woke up to fog and clouds, which never really disappeared all day long (well, the fog did), but we had a picnic to go to, hosted by B's daycare center. That was kind of fun. Only 2 hours long, which was just about right. Good food, lots of desserts, and plenty of space for B to run around and tire herself out. She crashed for 2 hours when we got home.

After dinner and bathtime, we put her to bed. Then P and I watched a movie together. Then I went to bed and P stayed up to finish a project for work.

That's it. That was my weekend. Kind of boring, kind of homey, kind of ... normal. Kind of nice.
