Remembering Eddie
Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, 5:52 am

The first couple of years after we bought this house, our next-door neighbors to the north of us were a very nice couple, Eddie and Rosemary Dillard. They were in their early 50's (I'm guessing), both professionals, and seemingly inseparable.

They were gone a lot. Travelers, both for work and for pleasure. But their homebase was here. We'd see them inbetween jaunts, and they were friendly and well mannered people. Very good looking folks, too. I would always comment to P how handsome Eddie was, and how beautifully dressed Rosemary always was. They were the exact image of what I hoped P and I would be like at that point in our lives. Heading off to here and there, coming home, and just being together.

We liked them very much.

Then, I guess it was probably spring of last year, they moved to Washington DC. They put their house up for sale, but it didn't sell for several months.

We often wondered about Eddie and Rosemary after they moved away. Rosemary's sister would pop in now and then, to check on the house, meet with real estate agents. But news was that they were busy, and happy to be back east.

I've been thinking of Rosemary a lot these days. Especially today.

Eddie was on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11.

Today my flag is raised for the people we lost on 9/11. But especially for Eddie.

God bless Rosemary. I can't imagine what she's been through this past year.

To Eddie we didn't know you well, but we liked you very much and admired you even more. We will think of you often and feel sad at the tragic way you were taken from your loved ones.

I don't know how else to feel today.
