Party planning
Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, 6:14 am

I've been planning B's birthday party. She's going to be 2 years old on March 2nd. Wow, what a whirlwind the past two years has been.

So we're having a Chuck E Cheese's birthday party. She goes crazy at that place, as do most kids, so we decided to have it there. We're hosting 5 other children and their parents. Should be fun! We're having to dip into her college fund to pay for it (way more expensive than we were expecting), but hey, a girl only turns 2 once, right?

In honor of the event, I had a T-shirt made for her to wear that day:

We want to give her The Little Mermaid on dvd as part of her birthday gift. Did you know you can't buy this movie in any store? Well, I sure didn't. Turns out the only way you can get it is to bid for a copy on ebay, or Amazon.com, or buy it as part of a $400 boxed set. Isn't that nuts? We bid on a few yesterday, but after the bidding exceeded our maximum bid of $50, we started to get discouraged. Finally, we decided to just pay the "dealer" on Amazon.com who was selling a new copy for $60.

$60. For The Little Mermaid. Unbelievable. That's Disney for you. We're probably going to end up buying one of those big boxed sets of Disney classics - eventually. You just can't buy those movies anymore, at least not retail. And many of them, you can't buy by themselves for anything less than, well, $60. Most of them were going for around $75 (on dvd).

It's insane.

So, throw in a few little toys and a few little books, and that's B's birthday.

I'm sure we will all enjoy the movie.
