Returning home? - Saturday, May. 21, 2005

Good evening, Mr. President.
Friday, Jun. 18, 2004, 5:44 am

We were sitting out on our deck just after sunset last night. All of a sudden three army helicopters came roaring through the sky, apparently coming from B0eing Field. They were flying low -- low enough that we could have seen faces had they been pressed up against the windows of the helicopters (which they weren't, but...) These helicopters were traveling fast, in a triangle-ish formation. There were two Blackhawks and one other big one (can't remember its name - it's got two rotors). They flew right by us, obviously intent on getting to their destination as quickly as possible.

We wondered what they were doing, what they were for. It was cool to see them! All shiny, clean, and menacing looking. VERY official looking, in a military sort of way.

An hour later I was watching the news and I learned who was on Board one of the helicopters. Apparently, Pres. Bush had arrived at B0eing Field an hour earlier, and he and his entourage boarded the helicopters to make their way to Fort Lewis.

That is about as close as I have ever come to seeing Pres. Bush in person. We waved as the helicopters flew by us. They were close enough that they could have seen us if they were looking (we live on a hillside). Not sure if I'd have greeted them so warmly if I'd known who was actually in there.
